chak·ra Inspired Art
noun: chakra; plural noun: chakras
(in Indian thought) each of the centers of spiritual power in the human body, usually considered to be seven in number.
from Sanskrit cakra ‘wheel or circle,’ from an Indo-European base meaning ‘turn,’ shared by wheel.
In my own work, I incorporate what I have learned about Chakras and basic design principles of balance, contrast, harmony, and color theory. Symbolism is key and I use animals, nature, literature, music, sacred symbols, writing and specific colors in collages and paintings. The materials I use play an important part of the creative and educational process. I have mastered acrylic paint techniques and use collage as pure inspiration or as a medium. I use copies of text from spiritual books, album covers, magazines, such as the Smithsonian and handmade eco-freindly papers made by a women's collective in Nepal.
I have developed a workshop for all who wish to learn more about chakras or who want to strengthen and balance specific chakras. No previous painting experience is necessary if you wish to create your own unique art work based on the sacred chakra symbols, your intentions and readings. I can guide you step by step and offer public and private workshops at the Ruby Room in Wicker Park, Chicago. See the Event Register page for details.
Below is a collection based purely on the chakra energy studies, using shapes, petals, symbols, color, traditions and movement. The action of painting, cutting and pasting and even writing creates a shift or movement. This mental, emotional and physical creative practice paves a new path to leading to personal and spiritual growth.
